Mojeek Advertising Policies
Much of the digital advertising ecosystem is unhealthy. The tracking practiced by many companies, and notably by major search engine companies, has led to the problem that is now recognised as surveillance capitalism. Mojeek was the first search engine to commit to no tracking and maintains that position. Our search advertising operates without tracking, using no personal data. Search queries and location are used to match Ads to the search queries and the often implicit intent expressed in those.
These policies are designed to help you build and run campaigns which result in positive outcomes for users, advertisers, and society. They are designed to help you abide by laws and ensure a safe and positive experience for our users. Consequently our policies prohibit some content.
Following the policies will help in getting your ads approved and quickly. We reserve the right to reject or remove any Ad, at our sole discretion and at any time (as agreed in the Terms presented during Mojeek account sign-up).
We are in the process of developing our Ad policies, and changes will be posted here. At least until the first full version of our Ad policies are complete, all Ads will be subject to manual review for acceptance or rejection by Mojeek.
Our advertising policies consist of three parts, with more details below:
- Editorial requirements and Guidelines: Helping you create effective ads.
- Disallowed practices, content, products and services: Advertising you can't place and restrictions that keep Mojeek advertising safe and trustworthy.
- Restricted content: Culturally sensitive and locally varying restrictions.
Mojeek search advertising is designed to help you reach potential audiences and customers, without violating their privacy rights. We aim to help you succeed and provide search users with a safe and positive experience. Mojeek requires that advertisers comply with the policies described below and all relevant laws and regulations. When we find content that violates these requirements, we may block it from appearing. For repeated or flagrant violations, we may stop you from advertising with Mojeek.

Editorial Requirements and Guidelines
Our goal is to deliver ads that are useful for users and effective for advertisers and provide guidelines as follows.
Ad content should be relevant to what you’re advertising. Ad content should be inoffensive and appropriate. Responsible usage of trademarks by advertisers is expected.
Ads can be targetted by currently single-industry sectors and country. Search queries are analysed in real-time and allocated to the most likely industry category and combined with the location (by country) automatically detected by Mojeek, or manually set by the search user. Ads that match the likely industry category and country for the query are then shown.
It is in your interests for users to have a good experience when they click on an Ad, so Ad destinations should offer value. Failure to provide a valid and appropriate destination may result in your ad being rejected.
Disallowed practices, content, products and services
Products or services that jeopardise the safety of people offline and online may be disallowed. Destinations and Ad content that promotes discrimination, hatred, intolerance, shocking content or violence are not allowed. Destinations and Ads that deceive users will not be approved. Ads that point towards counterfeit and other such illegal goods will not be approved. Ads that aid in the facilitation of illegal or fraudulent behaviour will not be approved.
Ad content and destinations that are sometimes legally or culturally sensitive are restricted in the following topic areas. Note that these restrictions vary by location to comply with local laws. They may include but are not limited to: adult content; alcohol; content targetted at children; financial services including those related to cryptocurrencies; copyright & trademark matters; deceitful financial practices; gambling and related services; restricted substances; unofficial resale of event tickets; sale of live animals; competitions and lotteries; the promotion of sex work and adjacent services; the promotion of healthcare, health, and wellness products; and political advertising.
